Augusta Rolls Past Young Harris, 81-70

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team played its first Peach Belt Conference road game of the 2018-19 season on Monday afternoon against Young Harris College and won 81-70 in the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Jaguars had four players score in double figures, with freshman Miguel Arnold leading the team with 22 points. Arnold hit six three pointers and six field goals and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Junior Rafael Monteiro added 17 points and eight rebounds, sophomore Troy Cracknell scored 15 off the bench with four boards, and senior Tyvez Monroe picked up 10 points.

 

Monroe and Arnold each buried three pointers to start the game for Augusta. Monroe and Arnold each added another a three pointer and pair of field goals as AU built a 17-4 lead to start. The Mountain Lions didn't stay down long and tied the game at 28-28 with 5:12 to play in the first half. The lead changed several times in the closing five minutes before halftime, but Augusta went up 39-38 at the break.

 

The Jags outscored YHC by 10 in the second half and cruised to a 81-70 victory on the road. The Mountain Lions outscored AU in the paint 42-30, but the Jags owned the second-chance points 14-5 and rebounds 42-33.

 

Augusta remains in the mountains and heads to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on the University of North Georgia on Wednesday, Dec. 19 for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
