Augusta Scores 100 Points On Benedict In Home Opener

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team hosted its 2018-19 home opener in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wednesday night and won a 104-75 non-conference game over the Benedict Tigers.

It was the first time Augusta broke 100 points since Jan. 17, 2018 when the Jags played a double overtime game against Francis Marion.

 

The Jaguars stormed to a 20-8 run in the first eight minutes of action and led by 14 points for the largest first-half advantage. Benedict closed the opening half with hot shooting and trailed 50-41 to the Jags at the break. Augusta shot over 58 percent in the first half, while BC posted a 48.3 field-goal percentage and was 4-for-6 on three-point shots.

AU scored five points in less than a minute into the second half. The Jags went on a 21-9 run in the first five minutes of the second half and never looked back to win 104-75 and led by as much as 37.

 

All 12 players who entered the game for Augusta scored points. Seniors Deane Williams and Tyvez Monroe each scored 17 points and Williams added 10 rebounds for another double-double. Junior Rafael Monteiro scored 16 points, junior Troy Cracknell 14 points, and freshman Tyree Myers put up 11 points for the Jags. Cracknell was perfect from the floor, from the three-point line, and from the charity stripe.

 

Augusta dominated the glass and outrebounded the Tigers 47-25.

 

Peach Belt Conference play begins for the Jaguars on Saturday, Dec. 1 when the Georgia College Bobcats come to Christenberry for double feature. The women's game tips off at 1:30 p.m. and the men follow at 3:30 p.m.
