WILSON, N.C. – The Augusta University men's basketball team officially tipped off the 2018-19 season this weekend at the 45-Second Classic, hosted by Barton College, in Wilson, S.C. The Jaguars beat Mount Olive 77-73 on Friday and fell 89-76 to Barton on Saturday afternoon.
Augusta plays at Paine College on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Augusta, Ga., at The HEAL Complex.

Augusta started its season officially and pulled out a 77-73 non-conference victory over the Mount Olive Trojans. Despite blowing a 17-point lead, the Jaguars held off UMO down the stretch.
In the first half AU outscored Mount Olive 36-28, but UMO owned the scoring in the second 2o minutes 45-41. Augusta outrebounded the Trojans 45-32 in the contest, while four players scored in double figures.
Senior shooter Tyvez Monroe led all players with 18 points and he added 10 rebounds. Senior Deane Williams and freshman Tyree Myers each added 15 points and junior Rafael Monteiro managed 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Williams also added 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Williams recorded another triple-double for Augusta with 22 points and 16 rebounds and senior Tyvez Monroe scored 19 points and had four assists.
