AU Leaves Lander Behind In 95-66 Victory

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team played Lander University for the annual Military Appreciation Day game on Saturday afternoon and won a 95-66 Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Four Jaguars scored in double figures, with freshman Miguel Arnold leading the way with 22 points. Augusta senior Deane Williams was everywhere and scored 20 points, had eight rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. Sophomore Troy Cracknell came off the bench to give AU 19 points and junior Rafael Monteiro added 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

 

With soldiers and military personnel from Fort Gordon and various armed forces groups in attendance, the Jaguars took on Lander for the first of two meetings. AU went on a 16-7 run to start the game and were up 43-33 at halftime. Augusta freshman Miguel Arnold drilled a half-court three pointer at the first-half buzzer to lift AU up by 10 at the pause.

 

The Jaguars went on to win 95-66 – outscoring Lander 52-33 in the second half.

 

The Jaguars travel to Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla., on Wednesday, Feb. 6 for another Peach Belt away contest at 5:30 p.m.
