Men’s Basketball Remains 10th In NCAA Southeast Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Augusta University men's basketball team holds on to the No. 10 spot in the second official NCAA Southeast Region rankings that were released on Wednesday afternoon. The official ranking impact and eventually determine the NCAA Tournament field.

 

Lincoln Memorial leads the initial poll and leads the standings in the South Atlantic Conference. Fellow SAC team Queens is second, Peach Belt Conference member Clayton State is third, UNC Pembroke is fourth, and Carson-Newman is fifth. Francis Marion sits sixth and is followed by Lees-McRae, King, Mount Olive, and Augusta. The PBC has four teams on the list.

 

The top eight teams from each region will advance to one of eight region tournaments to be held on selected campus sites, March 10-13. The NCAA Tournament selection show is scheduled for 10 p.m. on March 4.

 

The Augusta University athletics department will celebrate 2018 Senior Day this Saturday, Feb. 24 during the Peach Belt Conference basketball doubleheader against the Lander Bearcats in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

 

The women's basketball game tips off at 1:30 p.m. and the men follow at 3:30 p.m. for the final regular-season games of the season.

About Augusta Men's Basketball

The Augusta University men's basketball team is led by head coach Dip Metress. On May 10, 2004, Metress was introduced as the fifth head coach in program history. He previously led the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (1996-04) and was an assistant for the Jaguars under Clint Bryant (1989-95). He has never had a losing season in his 14 seasons at the helm of the Jaguars. A two-time Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Metress and the Jags hosted five straight NCAA Regional Tournaments from 2007-11 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight three seasons in a row. He was named the South Atlantic Coach of the Year in 2007, the Southeast Region Coach of the Year in 2009, and the NABC Southeast District Coach of the Year in 2011.

 

Augusta men's hoops has retired four numbers in its 52-year history: Ben Madgen (1), Keshun Sherrill (10), Tyrekus 'AJ' Bowman (23), and Keenan Mann (32). The Jaguars have reached the NCAA tournament 11 times and won their region three times.
