Williams Posts Double-Double In 80-65 Road Loss To Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta University men's basketball team traveled to Francis Marion University for a Wednesday night Peach Belt Conference game and let the Patriots run away in the second half to drop an 80-65 game in the Smith University Center.

 

Augusta (13-12, 10-9 PBC) led early in the first half at FMU (17-7, 12-7 PBC), but committed 18 turnovers and allowed the Pats to score 20 points off those mistakes

Junior Deane Williams delivered a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds for Augusta, Senior Tamyrik Fields scored 18 points with six rebounds and three steals, and junior Aaron Byrd scored 11 points. Senior Kyle Doyle dished out six assists with six points and four rebounds.

 

FMU's Detrek Browning, who leads the PBC in nearly every scoring category, posted 29 points.

 

Augusta went on a 6-0 run before halftime and went into the break trailing 39-32. The Jags held the lead towards the start of the first half, but FMU took over the scoreboard with 14:52 on the scoreboard and held the lead from there.

 

Byrd made a three pointer to bring Augusta within two with 14:52 on the clock in the second half, but FMU outscored the Jags 41-33 across the second half to complete the regular-season sweep.

 

The Jaguars continue the road trip this Saturday, Feb. 17 at Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga., for a 4:30 p.m. PBC tipoff.
