Augusta Holds Off Flagler, 77-72, For Fourth Straight Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team met the Flagler Saints for the second time this season and won 77-72 Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

 

AUGUSTA SHOOTING

FLAGLER SHOOTING

  • 45.8 field-goal percentage (27-for-59)
  • 45.8 three-point percentage (11-for-24)
  • 77.8 free-throw percentage (7-for-9)

 

Senior Tamyrik "TC" Fields, the newest Jaguar into the 1,000-point club, had 18 points at halftime and finished with 33 – one shy of tying is career best. Fields recorded his 16th double-double of the season and his third game with 30 points or more this year. Junior shooter Tyvez Monroe put up 16 points with seven rebounds, while junior Deane Williams had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

 

Flagler outscored the Jags 28-26 in the paint and took an early lead, but Augusta grabbed two more rebounds and only committed nine turnovers to FC's 13.

 

The Saints came out shooting and hit seven three pointers in the first 12 minutes of play. FC led by 11 after a pair of free throws near the 7:00 mark in the first half and they were ahead by as much as 12 in the first half.

 

Freshman Shawn Moss came off the bench and got AU within one on a big three pointer and after a few possessions, Fields hit back-to-back-to-back jumpers to give the Jags a 31-30 lead. Augusta took the half on top 39-36, despite Flagler hitting eight three pointers.

 

Monroe made a three to open the second half and Augusta jumped to a 10-point lead. The Jags rolled to an 11-5 run in the first five minutes of the half. Flagler had the Augusta lead down to three after a three pointer at the top of the key and Chris Williams hit another deep ball as Flagler tied the game 58-all.

 

The Jags fired right back with a made trey and the game remained close down to the final whistle. Augusta led 72-70 with 57 seconds to go and held on for a 77-72 victory at home.

 

The Jaguars play at Columbus State in Columbus, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 3:30 p.m. PBC matchup.
