Augusta Drops Road Game At North Georgia, 91-84

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's basketball team continued their road stint on Saturday afternoon at North Georgia and dropped a 91-84 Peach Belt Conference game in Memorial Hall.

 

Augusta (7-7, 4-4 PBC) led by eight in the game, but UNG (7-7, 5-3 PBC) survived on their home turf and grabbed the victory.

 

Jags junior Deane Williams posted a double-double of 17 rebounds and 11 points, with a pair of assists and steals. AU sophomore Mikkel Kolstad led the team with 18 points, while junior Tyvez Monroe managed 16 points and senior Vlad Cobzaru 10 points off the bench.

 

Augusta's field-goal percentage was 49.2 percent (29-of-59) and they shot 41.2 percent from the three-point line and 73.1 percent from the charity stripe. The rebound contest went to Augusta, 37-35, but the Jags were called for 27 personal fouls and UNG 20.

 

UNG had a five-point lead at the break, hitting six threes in the half. AU had eight players score in the first half and they outrebounded the Nighthawks 20-18 in the opening 20 minutes. The game was a one-point battle under two minutes, but North Georgia notched the win.

 

Augusta wraps up the road trip on Monday, Jan. 15 with a trip to Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga., for a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game.
