Augusta Outlasted by Montevallo, 78-72

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Augusta University men's basketball team fell to Montevallo, 78-72, in PBC action Saturday evening in the Trustmark Arena.

The defeat will bring the Jaguars record to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Entering the contest, Augusta fell short in a late comeback attempt to Georgia Southwestern, 68-64.

Against the Falcons (6-3, 2-0 PBC), the Jags shot 40 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Augusta had a trio of players score in double figures. Keshun Sherrill led the way with 17 points to go along with eight assists, followed by 14 points from Keith Crump and Deane Williams poured in 11 points.

Montevallo's Terrell Lipkins scored a game-high 32 points and Kevin Kelley contributed 14.

As a team, the Falcons shot 48.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the three-point line.

Tommy Williams and Deane Williams both posted seven rebounds apiece to help the Jags win the rebounding battle 38-36.

The Jags were able to produce 12 points off turnovers, tally 23 second chance points and record 26 points in the painted area.

With 0:34 second remaining, Crump drained a three-pointer to bring the Jags within two, 72-70.

However the game turned into a contest of free throws in the final seconds, and Montevallo scored enough points from the charity strip to seal the win.

Augusta plays at Wingate on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
