Augusta moved to 2-3 with the loss and the Bulldogs improved to 4-4 on the season. Jaguar junior Keshun Sherrill leads the Peach Belt Conference with 26.8 points per game and he poured on 20 points with four rebounds.
Making his first start of his collegiate career, freshman Tyvez Monroe put up eight, sophomore Tamyrik "TC" Fields scored a personal career-high 16 points, and senior Tommy Williams contributed 15 points and seven rebounds.
Bowie State shot 51.9 percent from the floor and Augusta posted a 47.5 percentage. BSU outrebounded the Jags 34-27 and scored 21 second-chance points. The Jags got beat on the three-point line as they posted a 25.0 percentage to Bowie's 57.1 from downtown.
Bowie State owned a 5-0 start and an uncontested three pointer at the 11:20 mark in the first half pushed the Bulldogs up 20-10. Augusta's Tommy Williams made a free throw on the and-one play to break the double-figure lead, but BSU's Julian Livingston buried four three pointers to keep the opponents ahead 31-17.
Livingston had 20 first-half points before the Jags had one in double figures. Livingston finished with a career-high 28 points.
The Jags trailed 47-31 at halftime and were 12-of-31 shooting from the field (38.7 %). BSU posted a 56.7 field-goal percentage and made eight three pointers while the Jags were 0-5 from deep in the first half.
Bowie State outrebounded the Jaguars 21-13 in the opening 20 minutes. Out of the break, Sherrill scored a quick three and Ja'Shawn Brooks kissed a high-glass layup to keep the Jags in a reachable game. Jags sophomore Tamyrik "TC" Fields slammed two back-to-back dunks to bring the momentum to Augusta and freshman Deane Williams dunked one on a fast break to make it 61-47 with 12:15 to play.
With 6:30 left, Sherrill drilled a three ball and got to the free-throw line the next play to make the score an eight-point game. Fields slammed his third dunk of the night down to bring the game to 75-70, but BSU never lost control and hit four free throws to push them back up by 10 as they held on for the win.
The Augusta University men's basketball team will host the second annual Education Day game on Tuesday, Dec. 15 when the Jaguars host Coastal Georgia for a special 11:00 a.m. tipoff in Christenberry Fieldhouse. There will be over 2,500 Richmond County fifth graders in attendance as part of an annual holiday field trip on Dec. 15 in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Augusta men's basketball team hosts the Coastal Georgia Mariners (Brunswick, Ga.) at 11:00 a.m. in a non-conference single game.
