ASU To Host Military Appreciation Day

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State Athletics will host its fourth annual Military Appreciation Day when the Jaguars take on UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 26 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

ASU will welcome over 350 uniformed soldiers at Saturday's games where all active-duty and retired servicemen and servicewomen and veterans, along with their families, will receive free admission into the game with a form of military ID. Soldiers from Fort Gordon will have reserved seating and an induction ceremony for new military recruits will take place during the men's halftime.

There are numerous military attractions and promotions at this year's games. Greenbrier High School and Lakeside High School's MJROTC drill teams will perform at the women's halftime. CPT Jaqueline Allen, a finalist in last year's Operation Rising Star -- an Army entertainment event similar to American Idol -- will sing the National Anthem prior to both games.

Representatives from the James Brown Arena, the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Sports Council and the Health Care Credit Union will be in attendance for both games – giving out various coupons and prizes to all personnel.

The Lady Jaguars (12-2, 6-2 PBC), off to their best start in program history, are currently riding a four-game winning streak and tied for first place in the Peach Belt Conference's East Division. The ASU men's team (9-5, 5-3) enters the weekend after dominating the third-annual "Battle of the Cats" in a 69-44 victory over Georgia College on Monday, Jan. 21.

Saturday's tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. for the women's game, with the men's game set for 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse at 3109 Wrightsboro Road.
