Jaguars To “Invade” Fort Gordon

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State Basketball has announced a "Jaguar Invasion" at nearby Fort Gordon.

Jaguar head coach Dip Metress and the men's basketball team will host a free clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 6 for the families of military personnel in Gym 5 on the Fort Gordon base. The clinic, for all school-age children from first through eighth grades, will last from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and will include fundamental work on basketball skills as well as assorted games and contests.

The Jaguars return four starters -- senior Travis Keels and junior Harold Doby along with sophomores Devonte Thomas and Devon Wright-Nelson – from last season's 17-11 squad. Wright-Nelson, a 6-5 forward who won Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2012, led the Jags in scoring (14.2 ppg.) and in rebounding (7.8 rpg.).

The ASU men, who are entering their ninth season under Metress, open the 2012-13 season on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., against Bowie State in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
