JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of
North Florida men's basketball team dropped a defensive struggle to
Augusta State Wednesday night, falling for the first time in Peach
Belt Conference play, 62-54 at the UNF Arena.
Neither team shot better than 40 percent from the field and
combined for 45 turnovers. The foursome of David Siebrands, Chris
Harriman, Patrick Curran and Jermale Wilkerson led the way for
Augusta, with Siebrands scoring a team high 17 points.
Michael Drayton was the only Osprey to score in double figures, as
he had a game high 21 points and hit four of six three pointers.
Mark Riley followed with nine points for UNF, while Donny Lotz
ended with eight.
The Ospreys found themselves playing catch up most of the night, as
they fell behind 10-0 in the first 4:30 of play. Three-pointers by
Drayton and Riley helped UNF climb out of its early hole and into a
brief lead at 14-12, then again at 19-16. Augusta went ahead
shortly thereafter, taking a 23-22 lead at the 5:01 mark. Both
teams went cold from there and Augusta went into the locker room
with a 25-23 advantage.
The Jaguars would never relinquish the lead in the second half,
taking advantage of an 11-0 run and holding off a late UNF charge.
The win evened ASU's record at 2-2 this season and moved the team
to 2-0 in the PBC, while the Ospreys fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in
conference play.
