Carson Newman Knocks Off Jags in Season Opener

 

The 2002-03 men's basketball season got off to a rocky start for the Jaguars, as they fell to Carson Newman by a final of 100-83. With the loss, ASU falls to 0-1 on the season, while Carson Newman, ranked 10th in the Division II Bulletin preseason poll, improve to 1-0.

Carson-Newman senior Dustin Edwards scored his 1000th point in route to 19 total to lead C-N. All-American Kyle Gribble added 18 points and Ishmail Simmons chipped in 12 points.

Dean Brebner led ASU with 21 points, while Patrick Curran added 15 points. 

The game featured two defending conference champions as the Eagles won the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and the Jaguars were the champs of the Peach Belt Conference in 2001-02. ASU looks to rebound on Nov. 27 as they face West Georgia in their first home game of the season. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Athletic Complex.
