West Georgia Defeats Augusta State 76-74 in Overtime Thriller

 

Augusta, GA - Augusta State University’s men’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaking overtime decision 76-74 Friday night to West Georgia. The Jaguars fall to 0-1 on the season, while West Georgia improves to 1-0.

The two teams played to a 71-71 tie after regulation, with West Georgia outscoring the Jaguars 5-3 in overtime for the two-point win.

Augusta State was led by Festus Hawkins’ 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting. Hawkins recorded a double-double by tallying 12 rebounds as well. Gary Boodnikoff added 15 points in the losing effort and Marcus Gradney tallied 11 points. Russell Hinder had six points and 14 rebounds in his first game in a Jaguar uniform.

Andy Young led West Georgia with 22 points., while Jeff Hickman chipped in with 15 to round out the Braves’ double-figure scorers.

The Jaguars will be in action again November 22 at Savannah State.
