Augusta State to host Midnight Madness Saturday, October 14

 

AUGUSTA, GA - Augusta State University’s men's and women's basketball teams will be holding their annual Midnight Madness on Saturday, October 14 beginning at 10:00 p.m. at the ASU Athletic Complex. This will be the first opportunity for Jaguar fans to catch a glimpse of the men’s and women’s teams as the 2000-01 season officially opens at midnight.

The evening will begin at 10:00 p.m. with free food and drinks for everyone in attendance. Augusta State will also be giving away five book scholarships worth $200 each to lucky ASU students in attendace.

At 10:30 p.m. a three-on-three basketball tournament will be held for any interested ASU students, faculty, staff, etc. Prior to midnight, the Augusta State cheerleading squad will perform. A three-point shooting contest and dunk contest will also take place prior to the midnight hour.

At midnight, ASU’s basketball teams will take the floor for intra-squad scrimmages.

Greg Wilson returns for his second year as the head coach of the Lady Jaguar squad after a 10-15 record last season. Wilson returns two starters from a year ago, including Katie Lawrence and Amy Frantz. Plenty of fresh faces will be on hand for the 2000-2001 season, including Tameika Bridges (a junior college transfer from Pensacola JC) and Sharon Taylor (a transfer from PBC rival and NCAA Division II Final Four participant Columbus State University).

Gary Tuell returns for his fourth season as the head coach of the men’s program. Tuell has amassed an overall record of 41-43 during that span, including one PBC Regular Season Championship and two first place finishes in the PBC North Division. ASU is coming off of a 17-11 record last year and will be led by twin towers 6-11 Festus Hawkins and 6-10 Russell Hinder.

Doors to the ASU Athletic Complex open at 10:00 p.m. and admission is free.
