Senators down Augusta State 68-60

GREENWOOD--The Lander men's basketball team won its sixth straight game Saturday night when it defeated Augusta State University, 68-60, in a Peach Belt Conference game in Horne Arena.

Lander, which hadn't beat Augusta State in their last six meetings, improves to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in the PBC, while the Jaguars drop to 13-7, 7-3.

Travis Lane led the Senator attack with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Wayne Riley, Lloyd Wilson and Tally Loyd scored 12 points each and Simon Moore added 10. Matt Smith (two blocks) and Wilson nabbed seven rebounds each.

Augusta State was led by Festus Hawkins' game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Russell Hinder and T.J. Ott added 13 and 12 points respectively. Lander rallied late in the first half to tie the game 32-32 at halftime. 

The Senators, who shot 41.5 percent for the game, connected on 18-of-20 second-half free throws. Augusta State shot 38.3 percent from the field.

ASU will be in action again Wednesday when they host UNC Pembroke at 7:30 p.m.
