TJ Ott Leads ASU to 61-47 Win over USC Spartanburg

Augusta, GA -- Augusta State University’s men’s basketball team defeated USC Spartanburg 61-47 Saturday night at the ASU Athletic Complex. With the win the Jaguars improve to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in league play. The Rifles fall to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The win marked ASU’s 31st victory in the last 39 Peach Belt regular season contests, dating back to the 1998-99 season.

TJ Ott led the Jaguars with 15 points on seven of 11 shooting from the floor. Russell Hinder also chipped in with 11 points to round out ASU’s double-figure scorers. Festus Hawkins added eight points in only 16 mintues of play.

USC Spartanburg was led by Steve Rudic’s 15 points. ASU’s defense held Sherron Singleton to only two shots on the night and three points total. Singleton tallied 23 points in a one-point Jaguar overtime win on January 8th. Phil Kristinsson added 10 points in the losing effort.

ASU held the Rifles to 36 percent shooting from the floor, while the Jaguars shot 43 percent from the floor. ASU connected on seven three-pointers on the night and shot 41 percent from long-range.

The Jaguars will be in action again Wednesday night in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Kennesaw State.
