Paine Defeats ASU 68-58 Behind Yari Scott’s 27 Points

Augusta, GA --- Augusta State University fell to Paine College 68-58 Monday night at the ASU Athletic Complex in the 2001 City Classic. Over 1,500 fans were in attendance for the thrilling crosstown rivalry. With the loss, ASU falls to 10-4 on the season, while Paine improves to 9-3 overall.

Yari Scott connected on nine of 19 from the floor, including five three-pointers, for his game-high 27 points. Scott also chipped in with six rebounds for head coach Ron Spry’s squad. Colin Jamerson also scored in double figures with 12 points.

Paine shot 37 percent from the floor and 30 percent from three-point range.

Augusta State was led by Festus Hawkins with 21 points and seven rebounds. Gary Boodnikoff, who was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday, tallied 12 points and had eight rebounds.

The Jaguars shot 40 percent from the floor and 26 percent from three-point range.

Perhaps the most important statistic of the game was ASU’s 19 turnovers, while Paine College only commited a remarkable four turnovers.

The Jaguars will be in action again Wednesday night as they travel to USC Aiken for a key PBC matchup, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
