AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University head baseball coach Chris Howell signed seven new position players for the upcoming 2020 season. The Jaguars gained four freshmen, two juniors, and a sophomore.

"To close out this year's recruiting class, the Jags brought in experience from the junior college level and some talented high school position players," Howell said. "Georgia high school baseball is played at a high level and that transitions into an immediate impact in our league."
Cam Davis is a junior transfer from Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn. He lettered in two years of baseball at RSCC as a starting infielder and will finish his final two seasons in Augusta. From Cincinnati, Ohio, Davis graduated from Cincinnati Country Day School in 2017 and was named All-State, All-Conference every year, and recorded a .452 career batting average.
Rylan Laird is a two-way player who will see time in the infield and on the pitcher's mound. A graduate from North Oconee High School in Bogart, Ga., Laird was named an All-State third baseman in 2019 and earned All-Region honors as a junior and senior. His squad reached the final four of the 2019 state playoffs during his time. Laird plans to study business at AU.
Mason McFarlin is an incoming freshman catcher from Colbert, Ga. He graduated in 2019 from Madison County High School in Danielsville, Ga., and was the team captain during his tenure. McFarlin also played club baseball for Team Rawlings out of Commerce, Ga. He will join his brother Noah, another incoming freshman, for the 2020 season.
Cameron Moore is a sophomore transfer from Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga., where he played infield in 2018-19. Moore is a Nahunta, Ga., native and graduated from Brantley County High School in 2018. He was a first team All-Region selection twice and recorded a .360 career batting average.
Theron Powell is another junior transfer from Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn., and will boost the production in the Jaguar outfield. Powell was a first team All-Conference selection at RSCC and an honor roll student. He graduated from The Steward School in 2016 and was a first team All-State honoree. Powell helped his high school squad win a state championship in 2014 and plans to study psychology at AU.
Dylan Shugan is a freshman infielder who joins the Jaguars from Milton High School. Shugan grew up in Alpharetta, Ga., and earned 2019 Rawlings All-American honors for his performance at MHS. He helped win a state and region championship during his time and hit a home run on the first pitch of his first home at bat as a senior. Shugan played club baseball for the Georgia Jackets out of Milton, Ga., and was named to seven different All-Tournament teams. He plans to study criminal justice.
Justin Stevens is a local freshman signee for the Jaguars from Evans, Ga. He played for Greenbrier High School and lettered in baseball under coach David Barnes. Stevens was also a basketball letterman for the Wolfpack. He plans to pursue a nursing degree at Augusta University.
