Jaguar Baseball Brings In Nine Pitchers For 2020

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University head baseball coach Chris Howell signed nine new pitchers to help the staff for the upcoming 2020 season.

"This new group of incoming pitchers brings excitement and depth to our pitching staff," Howell said. "This talented group of arms will have an immediate impact on the 2019-20 season and I can't wait for them to get on campus this fall."

 

Parker Bridwell is an Atlanta, Ga., native who attended Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga., for all four years. He was a scholar-athlete letterman for Peachtree Ridge and also competed for the Georgia Bombers out of Suwanee, Ga. Bridwell plans to study computer science at Augusta University.

 

Will Cantrell comes to the Jaguars from Chestatee High School in Gainesville, Ga. Cantrell was a four time All-Region selection, was named second team All-State in 2019, and finished runner-up in the 2018 Pitcher of the Year voting. He was inducted into the CHS Baseball Hall of Fame and had a 1.59 earned run average as a senior with 91 strikeouts. 

 

Austin Heard hails from Powder Springs, Ga., where he graduated from Hillgrove High School. A four-year letterwinner, Heard was a first team All-Region selection in 2019 and was named to the All-State second team. He was a second team All-Region honoree in 2017 and 2018 and posted a career earned run average of 1.68.

 

Nick Karavite attended Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Ga., for two years and graduated in 2019. He was voted the Pitcher of the Year for Blessed Trinity as a sophomore and also received the Freshman of the Year award the year prior. An honor roll student with numerous academic accolades, Karavite plans to study biology at Augusta University. Heard intends to pursue a degree studying kinesiology.

 

Noah McFarlin graduated in 2019 from Madison County High School in Danielsville, Ga. He was the team captain for varsity baseball throughout his tenure at MCHS as a starting outfielder. McFarlin earned All-Region honors as a second-team selection in his junior and senior seasons. He plans to study kinesiology at Augusta University.

 

Brice Miller will make his way to Augusta from Wayne County High School in Screven, Ga., where he was a two-sport letterman in baseball and football. During his tenure at WCHS, Miller was named the Pitcher of the Year.

 

Hunter Norman spent two years pitching at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga., and will join Augusta as a junior transfer. Norman pitched the second most innings for AC as a sophomore in 2019 and struck out 32 batters. He started 14 games on the mound and logged one complete game. Norman is from Thomson, Ga. and attended Thomson High School.

 

Joseph Pittman is an incoming freshman from Tifton, Ga. He pitched for Tift County High School for four seasons beginning in 2015. A four-year letterman, he was named the Most Outstanding Player for TCHS and was voted the team captain his senior season. Pittman was also a member of the Beta Club and was an honor roll student.

Britt Thomas will transition from one AU to another, after spending two seasons at Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. Thomas lettered in two seasons of baseball for the Trojans from 2017 to 2019 and will join the Jags in the fall. Thomas is from North Augusta, S.C., and spent his high school career playing for the North Augusta Yellowjackets.
