Jags Baseball Announces Micah Blount As New Assistant Coach

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University head baseball coach Chris Howell announced the hiring of Micah Blount as the new assistant coach for the Augusta Jaguars. Blount reported on June 24, 2019 and will begin duties for the 2019-20 season.

 

"I want to thank Coach Howell and his family for giving my wife and I this opportunity to be a part of this great university," Blount said. "It's exciting to be able to join the staff and compete in one of the best conferences in Division II. I'm ready to get the guys on campus and get to work."

 

Blount joins the Jaguars from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., where he has been the top assistant coach since 2016. Blount also played two seasons for Trevecca Nazarene in 2015 and 2016, before receiving a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2016 and a Master of Business Administration in 2018. Along with his coaching duties with the Trojans, Blount also served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Assistant Hitting Instructor for the baseball program.

 

From Birmingham, Ala., Blount started his collegiate career at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette, Ala., and played for Alabama Baseball Coaches Association hall of famer Wayne Larker. Blount had over a .300 batting average and helped the Sun Chiefs earn a No. 4 national ranking. 

 

Blount transferred to Trevecca for his final two seasons of eligibility and despite battling back injuries throughout his two seasons, helped lead Trevecca to two regular season championships as well the Great Midwest Championship in 2015. His career batting average eclipsed .320. During his senior season in 2016, Blount led the team and Great Midwest Athletic Conference with 17 home runs, while pacing TNU in slugging, RBI, and walks. He was second on the team in runs and third in hits and at bats. He finished second all-time in Great Midwest history in home runs (season & career). During his four-year career Blount helped lead his teams to more than 150 wins. He received All-Region honors and received an associate's degree in science from Faulkner State CC.

 

Blount married the former Anna Main on Nov. 17, 2018.
