Jags Drop Two Against Lynn To Open The Non-Conference Series

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted a non-conference doubleheader against Lynn University and fell 13-12 and 8-3 at Jaguar Field on Saturday.

 

Augusta moved to 18-30 overall, while Lynn is now 18-26 on the season. Augusta hosts Lynn this Sunday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m. to celebrate 2019 Senior Day and wrap the regular season.

 

GAME 1

The Jaguars took the first lead when senior Patrick Watson scored on a sacrifice fly in the second and fourth inning for a 2-0 game. Lynn got one run back in the top of the fifth and sixth and scored six in the seventh to take an 8-4 lead.

 

Augusta made it 8-6 in the seventh when senior Devin Bilardello and sophomore Mason Robertson each drove in a run with base hits to the outfield. Sophomore Carrington Evans hit a three-run homer later in the inning to give AU the lead and junior Jose Nogueras hit a long ball in the next at bat to put the Jags up 10-8. Lynn enjoyed another big inning in the eighth and scored five to hold on and win 13-12.

 

AU senior Aron Chick started his sixth game of the year and pitched 6.2 innings. Chick struck out seven batters and allowed 11 hits for eight runs (four earned). Freshman Tripp Church took over in the seventh, before seniors Zack Goble (0-2) and Tony Jones closed it out on the mound.

 

Evans went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs for AU, while Nogueras was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Sophomore Skylor Murphy and Bilardello were each 2-for-4 and Robertson was 2-for-5 for the Jaguars.

 

GAME 2

Lynn launched a two-run home run in the first inning for an early lead and hit another long ball in the fifth to eventually build a 6-0 lead. Augusta senior Patrick Watson put the Jags on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Fighting Knights prevailed and won 8-3.

 

Jaguar senior Chase Slone (2-3) earned the start and struck out seven in 4.2 innings of action, while surrendering six hits for six runs, but only two were earned. Freshmen duo Chase Horton and Alex Colon each pitched in relief for Augusta.

 

Murphy enjoyed a 2-for-3 performance at the plate for the Jags, while Watson went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run.
