Last-Inning Homer Puts Jags Past Georgia College, 6-4

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team played its final Peach Belt Conference series of the season at Georgia College on Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars dropped game one 15-0, but won game two, 6-4, on a ninth inning home run from sophomore Skylor Murphy.

 

The games moved Augusta to 18-27 on the year and 7-22 in the league, while GC is now 22-18 and 12-12. Augusta returns to Milledgeville on Easter Sunday, April 20 to take on the Bobcats at 11:00 a.m.

 

GAME 1

After a quiet two and a half innings, the Bobcats booked seven runs in the third and four in the fourth. GC totaled 19 hits to AU's five and won 15-0.

 

Jaguar senior Aron Chick started on the mound and got hit early to allow seven run in 2.2 innings. Freshman Tripp Church came in to throw 2.1 innings and give up four more runs, before freshmen Clark Adams and Trevor Gordon closed it out.

 

Sophomores Timothy Gray and Mason Robertson and freshman Ben Markiewicz each went 1-for-3, while sophomore Skylor Murphy and freshman Beau Hanna each went 1-for-4 for Augusta.

 

GAME 2

The Jags stormed to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the third inning. After GC tied the game with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth, Augusta carded two in the top of the ninth when Murphy hit a two-run long ball to right centerfield.

 

Freshman John Micah Law pitched 5.2 innings for AU in the start and struck out one. He surrendered six hits for four runs, before senior Tony Jones pitched the final 3.1 innings and got the win. Jones (5-3) held the Bobcats to three hits and no runs.

 

AU freshman Brian Smith was 2-for-3 with two runs and Murphy and senior Devin Bilardello each had two RBI on one hit. Sophomore Mason Robertson was 1-for-5 with two RBI and a run as well.
