Augusta Falls In 2-1 Pitchers Duel At USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team met the USC Aiken Pacers on Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium and lost a 2-1 game to start the three-game Peach Belt Conference series.

 

Augusta (16-20, 5-17 PBC) stole the first lead against USC Aiken (19-16, 11-8 PBC), but allowed two runs on an error in the fifth inning and could not recover. The Jaguars were held to three hits, while USCA tallied eight.

 

The Jags scored first in their opening at bat when freshman Beau Hanna scored sophomore Skylor Murphy on a groundball. An Augusta error in the fifth inning scored two Pacers as USCA stole a 2-1 lead. Down by a run in their final scheduled at bat, the Jaguars put two runners on, but the Pacers held off the Jags with runners on the first and third in the ninth inning.

 

Murphy, sophomore Trent Maddox, and freshman Ben Markiewicz each had a hit for the Jags. Senior Aron Chick (1-3) started his third game and made his 14th appearance of the season. Chick tossed seven innings and struck out three, while giving up seven hits for two runs (zero earned). Freshman Chase Horton closed out the game for AU on the mound.

 

The Jaguars continue the series at USCA on Saturday, April 6 with a 4:00 p.m. start in Aiken, S.C.
