Jaguars Fall In Midweek Game At Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team took a break from conference play on Tuesday afternoon with a trip to Valdosta State and lost an 11-4 game.

 

Augusta (16-19) led early over Valdosta State (18-16), but couldn't slow down the Blazers' bats in the non-conference meeting.

 

After sophomore Mason Robertson reached on an error in the first inning, senior Patrick Watson delivered an RBI double to put Augusta up 1-0. Valdosta State scored two in their first at bat to the lead, but AU cut the score in half with a run in the fifth.

 

Augusta freshman Ben Markiewicz hit a two-out double and senior Harrison Moore drove him in during the next at bat when he singled to left field for 3-2 game. The Blazers capitalized on four Augusta errors and went on to win.

 

AU freshman John Micah Law (1-1) started his second game of the season and went four innings to hold the Blazers to two runs on seven hits, before four more pitchers made appearances.

 

The Jaguars were led offensively by Watson who went 2-for-5 with a run and RBI. Robertson had an RBI and run with a one hit performance, while Moore was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Markiewicz scored twice and recorded a hit and RBI.

 

Augusta plays at USC Aiken. April 5-7, in Aiken, S.C. for another Peach Belt Conference series.
