AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team finished the Peach Belt Conference series with the Lander Bearcats on Sunday afternoon with an 8-6 loss at Jaguar Field.

Augusta (16-18, 5-16 PBC) and Lander (14-21, 9-9 PBC) entered the series finale even at one game apiece after the Bearcats took game one and the Jaguars the second.

Lander hit a second-inning solo home run to lead first in the game, but the Jags came back. AU freshman Beau Hanna led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double down the right-field line on the first pitch he saw. He later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

The Jags gave up two more in the fifth and three in the sixth, before carding two in the bottom of the sixth to trail 6-3. After Lander drove in another pair in the seventh, Augusta made it 8-5 when sophomore Carrington Evans made the most of a pinch-hit opportunity and scored seniors Patrick Watson and Devin Bilardello with a double off the left-field wall.

Augusta senior Tony Jones (4-2) started his sixth game on the mound and tossed 5.2 innings to strike out six and allow six hits for four runs. Freshman Chase Horton made a brief appearance, before senior Chase Slone entered the game to pitch and struck out five in 3.1 innings.

The Jags play a non-conference game at Valdosta State on Tuesday, April 2 for a 4:00 p.m. game in Valdosta, Ga.
