Augusta Takes Down USC Aiken, 6-4, At SRP Park

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted the USC Aiken Pacers under the lights on Thursday at SRP Park and won a 6-4 game. Augusta (15-16) met USCA (17-13) for an out-of-conference single game at SRP Park - home of the Augusta Greenjackets, as part of the venue's college showcase series.

 

 

USCA took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but AU came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Patrick Watson hit his 10th home run of the season to put AU up 2-0, before senior Harrison Moore and sophomore Trent Maddox singled to boost the Jags up 5-1.

 

The Pacers got back into a one-run game with a solo homer in the fourth and a two-RBI single in the fifth. Freshman Beau Hanna came up clutch for Augusta and hit another long ball to lift Augusta to a 6-4 lead where they held on for the win.

 

AU senior Tony Jones (3-1) started his fifth game of the season and pitched three innings, where he struck out two and held USCA to one run on three hits. Senior Chase Slone struck out two and allowed and three hits for three runs, before freshman Chase Horton sat down three on strikeouts in 2.1 innings of action. Augusta freshman John Micah Law pitched the final two innings and ended the game with two strikeouts to get his third save of the season.

 

Maddox and Watson each had two RBI on one hit for the Jags, while senior Zack Goble went 2-for-4. AU had nine hits to USCA's eight.

 

The Jaguars continue Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when Lander University visits Jaguar Field in Augusta, Ga., for a three-game series March 29-31.
