AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team lost 9-7 to the Flagler Saints on Sunday at Jaguar Field to end the Peach Belt Conference series.

The Jaguars (13-12, 4-11 PBC) and Saints (15-13, 9-6 PBC) split the first two meetings, with each team winning by 10 runs or more. Augusta won 17-6 on Friday and Flagler won 13-1 on Saturday.

In game three, Flagler went ahead 5-0 after two at bats, but Augusta came back in the bottom of the second. An error and wild pitch let AU score two, before senior Devin Bilardello belted a single to score freshman Brian Smith. Sophomore Trent Maddox continued his strong offensive presence and blasted a game-tying, two-run triple to centerfield to tie the game at 5-5.

The Saints scored two more in the sixth to take the lead, but Maddox came up big again with a two-RBI single to right field in the bottom of the sixth. Flagler got a bases-loaded single to centerfield to score two more in the seventh and held off Augusta for a 9-7 final.

Maddox was 3-for-5 with four RBI, while freshman Ben Markiewicz went 3-for-4 with a scored run for Augusta.

Augusta senior Tony Jones made his third start and 10th appearance of the season and gave up five early runs, before senior Aaron Chick entered the game in the second inning. Chick struck out five and held the Saints to two runs. Senior Chase Slone (1-3) took over pitching duties in the seventh inning and gave up a pair.

Augusta heads to Anderson for a Wednesday, March 20 non-conference game at 6:00 p.m. in Anderson, S.C.
