DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team opened its Peach Belt Conference series under the lights at No. 17 North Georgia and gave up a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single to centerfield to fall 3-2.

Augusta (14-13, 4-12 PBC) held a lead over North Georgia (18-8, 8-5 PBC) until the last at bat. AU scored a run in the first inning and one in the fifth, but UNG came back to steal the win.

Senior Zack Goble started AU's second at bat with a double to left centerfield. Freshman Beau Hanna eventually drove him in with a fielder's choice as the Jaguars took a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Augusta freshman Ben Markiewicz and senior Devin Bilardello each reached on back-to-back errors. Markiewicz ended up scoring on a ground ball from senior Harrison Moore for the Jags to lead 2-1.

Senior Aron Chick started on the mound for Augusta and struck out seven in seven innings pitched and allowed only one run on seven hits. Goble (0-1) took the mound in the eighth inning and gave up the late lead. Jags sophomore Trent Maddox was 2-for-4 to pace the team.

Augusta plays a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game against the UNG Nighthawks on Saturday, March 23 to continue the series.
