Jags Give Up Two To Georgia Southwestern

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team continued its long homestand to start the season with a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern on Saturday at Jaguar Field. Augusta (6-7, 2-6 PBC) dropped the first meeting 20-3 to GSW (5-7, 2-3 PBC) before falling 5-1 in game two.

 

Augusta is in the middle of a 12 game home streak to start 2019 and will make it 13 when it's all said and done. Augusta hosts the GSW Canes on Sunday, Feb. 24 to end the league series with a 1:00 p.m. single game at Jaguar Field.

 

GAME 1

The Jaguars got behind early in game one and never recovered in a 20-3 loss. GSW compiled 23 hits to AU's six.

 

Augusta freshman Beau Hanna hit a home run and senior Patrick Watson added a double and two RBI for the Jaguars. Senior pitcher Chase Slone (2-2) tossed 2.2 innings in the start, before the Jags went to the bullpen.

 

GAME 2

Augusta led first in game two with a solo run in the second inning, but the Canes pushed ahead with four in the fifth and on in the eighth to win 5-1. Senior Zack Gobles was 2-for-4 for the Jags, while Watson added another hit.

 

Senior Christian Griffin (1-3) pitched six innings and struck out 10. He allowed three hits for four runs, but only two were earned.
