Jags Come Back In 4-3 Win Over Emmanuel

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team won a 4-3 non-conference game against the Emmanuel Lions on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

 

The win moved Augusta to 6-5 on the season. Emmanuel outhit the Jaguars 10-7, but Augusta capitalized when it mattered. Senior Harrison Moore and freshman Wade Sumner each had two hits for the Jags, while sophomore Trent Maddox scored two with a triple.

 

Emmanuel (8-5) scored a run in their first at bat and added two more in the second inning for a quick 3-0 lead. Augusta plated two in the third and two more in the fourth to come back for the team's third straight win.

 

Freshman Tripp Church (1-0) made his fifth appearance on the mound and his first collegiate start against the Lions. Church struck out three and allowed six hits for three runs, before Ryan Cotton, Alex Colon, and Tony Jones closed it out. Jones tossed an inning and got his first save of the year.

 

Peach Belt Conference play resumes this weekend when Augusta hosts Georgia Southwestern Feb. 23-24 for a three-game series at Jaguar Field. Augusta plays an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23 and a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
