AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the UNC Pembroke Braves on Saturday and won 14-9 and 5-3 at Jaguar Field.

Augusta (5-5, 2-4 PBC) readjusted its series with UNC Pembroke (6-3, 1-2 PBC) and played a doubleheader on Saturday to beat the inclement weather. UNCP took game one on Friday by a score of 14-9 and AU answered in game and won by the same score. In the third meeting, Augusta fought out a 5-3 victory.

GAME 1

Augusta hit four home runs and totaled 23 hits to take game one 14-9. Senior Patrick Watson went 4-for-5 with two homers, three RBI, and a pair of runs. Sophomores Skylor Murphy, Mason Robertson, Trent Maddox, and seniors Harrison Moore and Zack Goble all added three hits each for Augusta.

Trailing by two to head into their first at bat, the Jaguars batted around and went up 7-2 with eight hits. Maddox ripped a triple to right centerfield that scored Murphy for AU's first run. Back-to-back singles from Moore and Goble plated two more, before Robertson doubled to bring in a pair. Watson stepped to the plate two batters later and belted a towering right-field homer to give the Jags a 7-2 advantage. Watson hit three homers on the day.

The Braves tied the game with five runs in the third inning, but Augusta scored one in the bottom half and two in the fourth to go up 10-7. After UNCP drove in two more for a one-run game in the eighth, Moore hit a home run over the centerfield wall to lift the Jags up as they went on to win 14-9.

AU senior Chase Slone pitched two innings and struck out one, while allowing four hits for five runs, but only three were earned. Senior Aron Chick (1-0) took over pitching duties in the third inning and struck out six. Chick held UNCP to two runs and got the win, before freshman Chase Horton got a save and closed it out to seal the Jags' victory and even the series.

GAME 2

Moore put the Jaguars on the board first with an RBI single to centerfield that drove in Murphy. Freshman Brian Smith, who homered in game on the day, lined a triple in the fourth inning to put AU on top by another run and Watson delivered another long ball to right field for his third homer of the day. The Jaguars won 5-3 to take the series.

Sophomore starting pitcher Charlie Cochran (1-1) struck out a collegiate career-high six batters in his 6.2 innings pitched. Cochran held the Braves to two runs on seven hits. Freshman John Micah Law relieved Cochran in the seventh inning and got his first save of the season in 2.1 innings of action. Goble went 3-for-4 with two runs and Moore added two more hits for the Jaguars.

The Jags hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga.
