Augusta Baseball Returns Home For 2019 Schedule

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University head baseball coach Chris Howell and the Jaguars released the schedule for the upcoming 2019 season on Tuesday. The new season will feature 49 total games and 28 home contests hosted by Augusta at Jaguar Field located next to Christenberry Fieldhouse.

"We are excited to be returning back home to Jaguar Field," Howell said. "The Jaguars haven't played a full season on the Forest Hill Campus in numerous years. We have made continued progress every day to improve the facility and plan to upscale the ball park even more. Our schedule features 28 home games that will keep us close to home and we're ready to get going."

 

Howell and the squad kick the season off with a 10-game homestand at Jaguar Field. AU hosts Mars Hill Feb. 1-2 for the season-opening weekend. The first pitch will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, with Saturday featuring a non-conference doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.

 

Augusta host Anderson for a midweek non-conference bout on Wednesday, Feb. 6 before hosting Francis Marion (Feb. 9-10) for a weekend series to begin Peach Belt Conference play. The Jags close their home streak by hosting UNC Pembroke (Feb. 15-17) for a three-day PBC series, starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

 

For the first time of the season, Augusta hits the road to face non-conference opponent Emmanuel on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The team returns home for the weekend to host Georgia Southwestern Feb. 23-24, with Saturday kicking off a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.

 

The Jaguars close out February by facing Coker on the road on Feb. 26. AU moves on to face Columbus State March 1-3 in Columbus, Ga. for another three-day conference series. March 5-6 sees the Jaguars hosting non-conference opponents Erskine and Saint Rose in back-to-back non-conference midweek affairs.

 

AU returns to PBC play by traveling to conference foe Young Harris March 8-10. The week after, the Jags host Newberry (March 12), Paine (March 13), and end the week with a conference series against Flagler (March 15-17). Augusta will take to the road the following week facing Anderson (March 20), North Georgia in conference play (March 22-24), and Newberry (March 27).

 

Augusta plays a non-conference game against the USC Aiken Pacers on Thursday, March 28 at the newly built SRP Park, home of the Augusta GreenJackets, in North Augusta, S.C. The Jags close out March by hosting Lander (March 29-31) in a three-day conference matchup that begins at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, before traveling to Valdosta (April 2) and USC Aiken (April 5-7).

 

The next week includes two home games against Coker (April 16) and Emmanuel (April 17), and ends with the Jags heading to Milledgeville, Ga. for the final regular season conference series against Georgia College April 19-21. The Jaguars wrap up the regular season with a three-game home series against non-conference opponents Lynn April 26-27.

 

Howell, now in his third year at the helm of the program, returns 16 players from 2018 and signed 11 new position players and six new pitchers.

 

"We have several players that have Peach Belt Conference experience and we look forward to them having a productive year for the Jags. We also have freshman that include some young players that will have an impact right away," Howell said.
