Augusta Baseball Wraps Season With Doubleheader Versus Lynn

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team wrapped up the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against the Lynn University Fighting Knights at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Augusta dropped game one 5-2 and fell in the second 9-2.

 

The Jaguars (15-33) celebrated 2018 Senior Day in between the doubleheader against Lynn (22-25) and honored Brent Alford, Sam Goberdhan, David Hagelston, Ty Hobbs, Jordan Kelly, Casey Lenoch, Matt Meeks, Ben Parr, Cody Pugh, and Jim Wagner in an on-field ceremony.

 

The Jags end the season ranked top five in the Peach Belt Conference for hits, triple, RBI, extra-base hits, total bases, walks, gams played, and at bats. Jags junior Devin Bilardello finishes his first season in AU with the most at bats and plate appearances in the PBC and the third-most hits.

 

GAME 1

Lynn belted a three-run homer in the top of the third inning and followed it with a solo long ball in the next at bat. The Fighting Knights added one in the fifth to make it 5-0, but junior Harrison Moore scored two with a two-out double to left field.

 

Senior Cody Pugh (1-4) made his fourth start of the season and went 4.2 innings – allowing seven hits for five runs, while striking out two. Jags senior slinger Sam Goberdhan entered the game in the fifth and struck out three in 3.1 innings. Goberdhan held LU to three hits and no runs, before senior lefty Jordan Kelly came on in the ninth to finish the game.

 

Senior Ty Hobbs was 2-for-4 for the Jags and Moore went 1-for-4 with two RBI to highlight the offense. Lynn had 11 hits to AU's six.

 

GAME 2

Augusta trailed early again in game two, when the Fighting Knights scored a run in the first inning and four in the third on back-to-back homers. AU's Hobbs hit a deep home run to centerfield in his last collegiate at bat in the sixth inning and senior Jim Wagner scored junior Jose Nogueras with an RBI single in the seventh. Lynn went on to win 9-2.

 

 

AU senior David Hagelston (0-3) logged his fourth start of the season and pitched 2.2 innings. Hagelston allowed eight hits for five runs (four earned) and sat down two on strikeouts. Senior reliever Ben Parr tossed 1.1 innings, before senior Casey Lenoch, freshman Jay Pendley, and junior Chase Slone all made appearances.
