Augusta Upsets No. 8 Georgia College, 6-5

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted its annual cancer awareness game on Saturday to benefit the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University. Augusta came from behind and won 6-5 over No. 8 Georgia College.

 

 

Augusta (13-30, 8-21 PBC) outhit Georgia College (32-9, 23-3 PBC) 14-2, while each team committed two errors.

 

Junior Devin Bilardello went 5-for-5 for Augusta, freshman Mason Robertson was 3-for-5 with two RBI, and sophomore Timothy Gray and junior Patrick Watson each had two hits.

 

Jags senior Cody Pugh made his third start of the year and pitched 5.1 innings with eight hits for five runs (one earned). Junior slinger Chase Slone came in midway through the sixth inning and 2.2 innings to hold the Bobcats to just two hits.

 

GC took over first with two runs in the third inning, before Augusta got on the scoreboard when junior Patrick Watson scored a lone run on an error in the third. The Bobcats added one in the fourth and a couple in the sixth, but the Jags loaded the bases in the seventh and plated three for 5-4 ball game.

 

Augusta tied the game when Watson singled to centerfield to score sophomore Timothy Gray who led off the inning with a hit. Tied at 5-5, Augusta took its first lead of the series with a Mason Robertson single to right field that plated Watson.

 

Junior Zack Goble came in to pitch the ninth and got his second save of the season.

 

AU's last Peach Belt series of the season ends on Sunday, April 22 with a 1:00 p.m. game between the Jaguars and Bobcats at LOS.
