Jags Downed In Double Feature At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team dropped a pair of Peach Belt Conference games to the Lander Bearcats on Saturday at Dolny Stadium.

 

Augusta (10-24, 7-17 PBC) won game one at Lander (12-19, 6-11 PBC) on Friday night, but came up short in the series-deciding doubleheader.

 

The Jaguars totaled 19 hits in a 19-12 game-one loss as the Bearcats booked 20 hits. In the series finale, Lander pushed past AU for an 8-3 final.

 

GAME 1

Freshman Jay Pendley (4-3) made the start and got the loss for Augusta in 1.1 innings of action. Ben Parr, Chase Slone, Casey Lenoch, Charlie Cochran, and Jordan Kelly pitched in relief for the Jaguars.

 

Jags junior Harrison Moore enjoyed a 4-for-6 day in game one of the doubleheader, while senior Jim Wagner was 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run. Sophomore Timothy Gray went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs and freshman Trent Maddox was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

 

GAME 2

To wrap the series, Augusta went to senior Matt Meeks on the mound. He went five innings and allowed four hits for one run with three strikeouts, before senior David Hagelston (0-1) got the loss for the Jags in the sixth inning when he allowed three runs. Tony Jones and Zack Goble closed entered from the Augusta bullpen and closed it down.

 

AU had four hits to Lander's 12 in the loss.

 

Augusta hosts Erskine College on Wednesday, April 4 for a 6:00 p.m. single non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga. The Jaguars meet USC Aiken April 6-8 for a Peach Belt showdown at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
