AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team held a one-run lead into the ninth inning over No. 23 North Georgia, but gave up four runs in the last at bat to fall 4-1 in the first game of the Peach Belt Conference series on Friday night.

Augusta (9-19, 6-13 PBC) took the first lead over North Georgia (13-12, 6-7 PBC) in the opening inning, but couldn't hold off the Nighthawks in their final at bat.

Jags slinger Sam Goberdhan made his eighth start and sat down the Nighthawks in order in the first three innings, before doing it again in the sixth and seventh. He pitched eight innings and held UNG scoreless on three hits before AU went to the bullpen.

AU junior Zack Goble (2-1) walked a pair, before senior Cody Pugh entered the game. UNG batted around in the ninth inning to produce four runs and survive for the victory.

AU juniors Bakari Gayle and Zack Goble slapped back-to-back singles in their first at bat and junior Harrison Moore roasted the UNG outfield with an RBI double in the right-field gap to lift the Jags up 1-0.

Junior Devin Bilardello, Gayle, Goble, and Moore each had a hit for the Jaguars.

The series continues on Saturday, March 24 with game two scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
