Jags Take Care of Coker, 5-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team clashed with the Coker College Cobras on a windy Wednesday night game at Lake Olmstead Stadium and won 5-3.

 

Augusta (9-18) put up nine hits on Coker (11-14) and held them to five hits in the non-conference game.

 

Jags senior Jordan Kelly (1-0) pitched two innings and held the Cobras hitless and scoreless to get the win. Senior David Hagelston started on the mound and went two innings, while senior Tony Jones and freshman Charlie Cochran pitched in relief. Junior Zack Goble got his first save of the season when he shut down the ninth inning for AU.

 

Freshman Trent Maddox went 2-for-4 with the Jags and senior Brent Alford was 2-for-3 with two runs.

 

Coker came to the plate first and plated two with a double down the left-field line. Augusta changed the game in the bottom of the third when junior Harrison Moore scored senior Brent Alford on a double. Freshman Mason Robertson scored on senior Jim Wagner's single in the bottom of the third and Augusta led 3-2.

 

The Jags picked up another in the fourth and sixth and sixth and won by two runs

 

Augusta hosts the North Georgia Nighthawks for a Peach Belt Conference series March 23-25 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The series starts Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
