Jags Fall To Young Harris In PBC Pitcher’s Duel

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team fell 4-0 to the Young Harris Mountain Lions to open the Peach Belt Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday night under the lights.

 

The Jaguars (6-15, 4-9 PBC) were held to three hits, while Young Harris put up eight runs in game one of the league series.

 

Senior Matt Meeks (1-3) made his fifth appearance and start for the Jaguars and went 8.1 innings with 11 strikeouts. Meeks struck out 10 or more batters for his third consecutive outing and only allowed three runs on five hits. Senior David Hagelston tossed a third of an inning in the top of the ninth.

 

Meeks held YHC scoreless on two hits heading into the fifth inning, when the Mountain Lions hit a solo home run and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. YHC added a couple in the ninth to shutout the Jaguars behind Michael Livingston's complete-game performance with 12 strikeouts.

 

Jags juniors Devin Bilardello and Harrison Moore each had hits, along with senior Brent Alford.

 

AU hosts Young Harris this Saturday, March 10 for a 1:00 p.m. PBC doubleheader at Lake Olmstead.
