Augusta Drops Game Three To No. 23 North Georgia, 6-5

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team dropped game three of the Peach Belt Conference series to the No. 23 North Georgia Nighthawks by a score of 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

 

Augusta (9-21, 6-15 PBC) had two runners in scoring position in their final at bat against North Georgia (15-12, 8-7 PBC), but couldn't produce to fall by one run.

 

AU senior Brent Alford plated juniors Devin Bilardello and Zack Goble with an opposite-field single through the right side in the first inning and junior Patrick Watson bounced one over the first baseman's head to score freshman Mason Robertson for a 3-0 lead.

 

UNG scored one run in the third and fourth, two in the fifth, and took a 5-3 lead in the seventh. The Jags cut their deficit to 5-4 when senior Ty Hobbs hit a double to centerfield to score junior Patrick Watson and senior Jim Wagner drove in Hobbs with an infield single to tie the game. North Georgia scratched across another in the eighth and held on for a 6-5 win.

 

Wagner, Bilardello, and Watson each had two hits for the Jaguars.

 

Senior Matt Meeks made the start for AU and struck out three in three innings while allowing three hits for one unearned run. Augusta senior David Hagelston allowed three runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of relief work, before Charlie Cochran gave up one in 2.1 innings.

 

Augusta went to seniors Aron Chick and Ben Parr in the bullpen, with Chick (0-1) getting the loss.

 

The Jaguars head to Hickory, N.C. on March 27 to take on the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game.
