Jags Start Conference Play With 7-4 Loss At Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team commenced Peach Belt Conference play on Friday afternoon at Francis Marion and gave up a late lead to fall 7-4 in their first road game of the year.

 

Augusta (0-4, 0-1 PBC) was down by three heading into the fourth inning at FMU (3-2) when they produced four runs to change the game. Sophomore Timothy Gray singled to score junior Harrison Moore and senior Ty Hobbs homered for three RBI. The Patriots came back with three in the sixth and one in the seventh to take it away.

 

Senior Cody Pugh opened the game on the mound for Augusta and tossed two innings – surrendering six hits for three runs, before head coach Chris Howell went to the bullpen. Freshman lefty Charlie Cochran came on in relief and struck out four, while seniors Casey Lenoch and Ben Parr pitched to close out the game.

 

Augusta had seven hits to FMU's 13 and had two errors in the field. Teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10
