AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted its season opener on Friday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium against West Georgia and the Jaguars fell 16-2.

The Jaguar offense produced 11 hits to West Georgia's 14, but they couldn't come up with anything timely as they only logged a pair of runs. Augusta (0-1) left 11 runners on base, while West Georgia (1-0) stranded 14.

Junior transfers Devin Bilardello and Bakari Gayle led the AU offense with three hits each. They both scored a run, while sophomore Carrington Evans was 2-for-4 for the Jaguars.

Greyson McLeod (1-0) struck out eight in his six innings pitched for the Wolves, before Andrew Marshall closed it out with three innings to get the save.

AU senior starter Cody Pugh (0-1) tossed 3.1 innings and struck out three, while giving up seven runs on six hits. Freshman Brennen Berger gave up six in 2.2 innings of action, before seniors Jordan Kelly, Tony Jones, and freshman Charlie Cochran made brief appearances.

West Georgia walked across home plate first with a two-run homer in the second inning and back-to-back doubles in the third put them up 3-0. The Jaguars loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, but UWG starting pitcher Greyson McLeod got out of the inning with a groundball.

Augusta gave up one in the third and five in the fourth to go down 8-0. They scored one in the sixth, but the Wolves put up seven in the seventh inning in route to a 16-2 victory.

Augusta returns to LOS on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 12:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader with West Georgia. Teams will play a nine inning and seven inning game to wrap the series.
