AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team met the No. 23 North Georgia Nighthawks for game two of the Peach Belt Conference series and dropped a tight 6-4 game.

Augusta (9-20, 6-14 PBC) tried to spark a late eighth-inning rally against North Georgia (14-12, 7-7 PBC), but the Nighthawks pushed across another run in the ninth and held on for the two-run win.

AU freshman Jay Pendley (4-2) made the seventh start of his collegiate career and tossed 5.1 innings. He struck out five and allowed eight hits for five runs, but only two were earned. Freshmen Brennen Berger entered the game in the sixth for the Jags and struck out one, while allowing one hit, before senior Tony Jones closed it out on the mound.

AU senior Jim Wagner was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while senior Brent Alford went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

UNG struck first with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and added another on a single to left field. Augusta cut the score in half when junior Harrison Moore blasted a leadoff triple in the fourth inning and scored on a single from Wagner.

Augusta gave up three unearned runs in the fifth inning thanks to two errors and trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom half of the fifth. Wagner started AU's seventh inning with a double to the left-center gap and scored when senior Ty Hobbs laid down a squeeze bunt. Alford delivered a two-run double and cleared the bases in the eighth inning to make it a 5-4 game, but UNG survived for the  6-4 win.
