Wagner Homers In Third Straight Game As Jags Win 6-4 At Valdosta State
VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars traveled to Valdosta State for a midweek non-conference game that was postponed earlier in the season due to weather. The Jags left with a 6-4 win over the Blazers at Billy Grant Field on Wednesday night.
 

Augusta (17-23) totaled 13 hits in the win as the defense rolled three double plays. Junior Jim Wagner had three RBI for the Jags with his fifth homer of the season. He has a long ball in the last three games.

 

Senior Tyler Roberts is the second toughest batter to strikeout in the nation with only four punch outs on the season. Roberts' contact at the plate continued in the win as he went 2-for-5 with an RBI for AU.

 

Freshmen Carrington Evans and Jake Bogosian each had two hits, while senior Cole Janousek scored twice and had a pair of hits to guide Augusta.

 

In the top of the second inning, Augusta came out strong and took the lead with five hits to plates four runs. Junior Jim Wagner hit a homer with Janousek and Bogosian on second and third to give the Jags a 3-2 lead. Soon after, Roberts doubled to right center which gave senior Cody Lanford the opportunity to successfully score.

 

In the third inning, Bogosian hit a double and freshman Jose Nogueras followed with a triple in the next at bat as AU rallied for a 6-3 lead going into the fourth inning.

 

Senior Cody Pugh (4-0) pitched three scoreless innings for the Jags after junior David Hagelston pitched three innings to start the game. Trying to come out of the deficit the Blazers hit a homer in the bottom of the seventh, but AU held the score finishing the game with a 6-4 win. Augusta closer Joey Stillwell pitched the ninth inning and got his fifth save of the season for Augusta.

 

Kendall Herron, Cody Ilgenfritz, Tyler Homer, and Luke Suchon each had two hits as the four batters in order for Valdosta State. Matt Williams (1-2) got the loss in three innings on the mound for VSU.

 

The Jaguars will celebrate 2017 Senior Day during their final home games of the season April 21 and 23 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jaguars host the Lander Bearcats for their final Peach Belt Conference games of the year and the senior day ceremony will take place in between the doubleheader on Sunday, April 23. Augusta opens the series on Friday, April 21 with a 1:00 p.m. single game and returns on Sunday, April 23 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
