Augusta Drops Midweek Game To Lenoir-Rhyne, 8-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team met the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Wednesday night and fell 8-3 in the midweek non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

 
 

Both Augusta (15-21) and Lenoir-Rhyne (21-18) entered the contest on a three-game skid. The Bears booked 10 hits to Augusta's eight and made one error to AU's three.

 

Senior shortstop Tyler Roberts went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the only Jaguar to have a multi-hit day. Senior designated hitter Jamal Cummings scored two runs and was 1-for-2 at the plate.

 

The AU pitching staff sent five men to the mound. Junior righty David Hagelston earned the midweek start for Augusta and faced 10 batters in three innings to hold the Bears to one hit. Senior southpaw Matthew Kuhlenberg (1-6) came in to pitch the fourth and allowed three hits for four runs (three earned), before Casey Lenoch, Cody Pugh, and Jordan Kelly each made appearances.

 

Matt Sullivan (1-1) logged the start for Lenoir-Rhyne and pitched 5.2 innings to allow seven hits for three runs. Lefty John Curtis and righty Austin Hancock each hurled a few innings for LRU as well.  

 

AU led it first when senior Cody Lanford scored Cummings on an RBI-single up the middle in the third inning. In the next at bat, the Bears brought around four runs on three hits and they added three in the fifth for a 7-2 lead.

 

Each team tacked on one more run and the Bears prevailed 8-3.

 

The Jaguars make a trip to Milledgeville, Ga., to take on the Georgia College Bobcats April 14-15. Augusta and GC meet Friday for a 6:00 p.m. game and play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
