AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team took a first-inning lead over USC Aiken on Sunday afternoon, but couldn't overcome the Pacers to fall 6-1 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Jaguars moved to 15-20 overall and 7-11 in the Peach Belt. Ranked No. 22 in the nation, USC Aiken improved to 27-10 and 12-6 in the league
Aiken won the first two games of the series with a 5-2 win on Friday night and an 18-1 victory on Saturday.
Both teams matched a run in the first inning to start the day. AU freshman Carrington Evans plated senior Clint Hardy on a double, but USCA got a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Luke Westerberg and Mitchell Price hit back-to-back homers for the Pacers in the second inning. Up 5-1, USCA never let the lead go to win an eventual 6-1 game.
Senior Will Thompson (2-2) tossed 4.2 innings in the start for Augusta and allowed 10 hits for six runs while striking out three. Senior closer Joey Stillwell pitched 3.1 innings of relief work and held the Pacers scoreless on two hits.
USCA pitcher Christian Aragon (4-1) pitched 6.1 innings and held the Jags to three hits.
Evans, Hardy, and freshman Jake Bogosian each had one hit in the game for the Jaguars and Jose Bonilla was 3-5 for the Pacers with two runs. Aiken had 12 hits to Augusta's three.
AU hosts Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, April 12 for a 5:00 p.m. single non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
