Augusta Gets Past Paine College, 6-3

AUGUSTA, Ga. – After being postponed twice earlier in the season, the Augusta University baseball team and Paine College played a midweek non-conference game on Wednesday at Lake Olmstead Stadium and the Jaguars pulled out a 6-3 game.

 

Augusta improved to 14-15 on the season and the Lions slid to 12-13.

 

Jags junior Jordan Kelly started his first game of the season and made his ninth appearance overall. Kelly pitched four innings and struck out two, before Jake Wotell and David Hagelston came in.

 

Hagelston (1-4) went 3.1 innings and struck out one while only allowing one hit to get the win. Joey Stillwell closed the ninth inning for his fourth save on the year.

 

Richard Marte (0-2) started on the mound for PC and pitched four innings to surrender four hits for six runs (five earned). Hardvis Batista pitched the final four innings for the Lions and struck out four while allowing three hits.

 

Paine outhit the Jaguars 10-7, but they made three errors. Jags junior Ty Hobbs had a 2-3 night with a run and RBI and junior Brent Alford carded three RBI on a lone hit.

 

The Lions' offense was carried by Jahziel Morel who went 3-4 and Adam Martin and Keenan Robinson who had two hits each.

 

Augusta heads to Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., for a three-game, non-conference series March 31-April 1. The Jags play a single game against the Catawba Indians on Friday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. and compete in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
