Augusta Baseball Drops Game Three At No. 3 North Georgia, 7-0

 

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team fell 7-0 to the No. 3 nationally-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks Sunday afternoon in the Peach Belt Conference series finale at Bob Stein Stadium.

 

Augusta moves to 10-14 on the season and 4-8 PBC. The Nighthawks (21-4, 8-1 PBC) are ranked No. 3 in the nation according to Collegiate Baseball on NCAA.com and they lead the PBC rankings.

 

Seniors Cole Janousek, Cody Lanford, and freshman Adam Spurlin each had a hit to total Augusta's three on the day. Dylan Peppers (2-1) pitched eight innings in the shutout win with eight strikeouts.

 

UNG drew threw walks to load the bases in their first at bat and a grand slam from Steven Tomlinson boosted the Nighthawks up big. Jaguar starter Will Thompson started game three of the series, before sophomore Chase Slone made his eighth appearance to get out of the opening inning.

 

Thompson (2-1) took the loss allowing one hit for four runs, while Slone slung 6.2 innings and allowed seven hits for four runs (three earned) in the 7-0 loss.

 

Dylan Peppers (2-1) pitched eight innings in the shutout win with eight strikeouts.

 

The Jags welcome the Armstrong State Pirates for a PBC series March 24-25 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The teams meet on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. game and return Saturday for the league doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.

 

Friday's game will be Greek Life Night with the Jags! AU is home to 12 fraternities and sororities and all are invited to join the Jaguars under the lights for a Friday night matchup! This event will be the official culminating event of 2017 AU Greek Week.
