Augusta Wins 2-1 Over West Georgia For First Victory of 2017

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University baseball team hosted the West Georgia Wolves on Saturday afternoon for the teams' fourth meeting of the young season and won a 2-1 thriller at Lake Olmstead Stadium. 

The victory is the first for Augusta (1-4) with new head coach Chris Howell at the helm.

 

Senior Tristan Jones (1-1) recorded a complete game on the mound and struck out three while

allowing two hits for one run. It was a pitcher's duel with West Georgia's Turner Edwards and

Dalton Reagin.

 

Edwards went 4.2 innings and allowed four hits for two runs and Reagin logged 3.1 innings.

 

Senior preseason All-Conference selection Clint Hardy tripled in the first inning and scored on

freshman Davis Murray's sacrifice fly. West Georgia tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but  

AU senior Cody Lanford singled through the right side to plate Murray and steal back the lead.

 

Jones closed it out on the mound and Augusta earned a 2-1 win under the lights at the lake.

 

Augusta meets West Georgia for the fifth and final time on Sunday, Feb. 12 for a 1:00 p.m. single game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
